Maximizing Your Events with Wayfinding Signs and Graphics

Planning an event involves many moving parts and sometimes, things that could dramatically improve an attendee’s experience are unintentionally forgotten. Understanding the potential challenges an attendee can face will help you create an effective visual communications plan for your next event. Here are some of the most common challenges that often affect event attendees—otherwise known as, real people.

Real People Get Lost

Directional signage is the key to having a confusion-free event. As you are planning for your upcoming event, make sure to put yourself in the shoes of someone who is seeing everything for the first time. Think through what attendees will be looking for and guide them through your event using wayfinding signs and graphics to enable them to see and experience everything at the event.


Real People Are Easily Distracted

It is easy to get distracted when information is not available or not communicated well. Help create a positive experience for attendees by clearly identifying important locations such as the registration desk or trade show entrance. Clear wayfinding signage helps minimize the overwhelming nature of a busy space. Use large eye-catching signs and visual graphics to direct event traffic where you want them to go. Keep attendees well informed by using digital signs, easel signs and hanging signs throughout your space to direct them to important classes or designate a location that they need to stop by.

Real People Have Questions

You can be sure that more than one person will ask, “Where’s the bathroom?”, “What room is the 2:00 pm session in?” or any number of questions about how to locate something. Knowing where to go makes people less stressed and better able to enjoy their experience. If an event is spread over a large area, it is important to make sure all of your wayfinding signage is branded so it is easy to see and identify. Use wall graphics, column wraps, stair graphics and floor graphics to direct event traffic, provide information, identify important locations, protect crowds and identify exits.

Real People Need Reminders

We’re human. We forget. So having messages to remind us about an upcoming event can be helpful and increase attendance. Use fence graphics, banners and A-frame signs to gain the awareness of people passing by. Once at the event, easily marked entrances, paths and exits can help with wayfinding and traffic flow.
